Baby Steps Ch244

tl;dr: GO WILD; SUCK IT HA-, I mean, BLUES! Computer death, loss of files, job searching and soul searching.

Let’s start off by saying that the Minnesota Wild beat the St. Louis Blues 4-2 and that, to me, is very significant. The dreams of a Wild / Habs finals are still very much real, but as the lone American rooting in the NHL here, I feel like I’m the underdog. Regardless, GO WILD!

Now on to the less important matters. About 2 weeks ago my computer decided it would be funny and corrupt itself into oblivion (way to go Windows!) with my backup timer having been set to apparently back everything up by quarter-year. So it’s been pretty much three weeks of attempts to recover data through various methods and then ultimately declaring, “Fuck it.” and wiping the entire drive after I thought enough had been recovered. The fact that this occurred during the time I was knee-deep in running multiple applications through the ringer, it was definitely an experience… I would rather not want to live through again. Despite that, the job hunt grind continues, whoo~. (Also, sorry Chaba I didn’t do the last chapter, but you finished it anyway! Yay! =D)

Anyway, enough of that. Here’s a Chapter. Let’s look forward to the T-Wolves’ chances next year, yeah? (./sarcasm)

Add-on: Yes, I know of page 42. A page edit will occur, it just won’t be announced since I like it that way.

  1. I am rooting for Wild too! I am an Austrian and our best player is playing for Wild. But i guess he hasn’t reached his potential with Wild by now and i hope he can reach some form soon.

    Also thanks for the chapter!

  2. I assume the reason why people are impatient is because the gap between the scanlations and the raws is significant, and has even been increasing. The fanbase, small as it already is, will always be divided and be smaller still. If you don’t want to be spoiled, then you must avoid any discussions that may occur for the raws. Besides that, tennis matches are not something that you can really enjoy at a pace of one chapter a month, given how much you’ll forget in that time.

If you guys feel like you could use some help, I think it’d be great if you could be direct about it and say so. There’s no shame in asking. If there’s really no interest after all, then at least we all know the release pace can’t be any faster.

    1. You’re saying this as if competent help is so easy to come by. People apply all the time, yet most of them are incapable of doing any useful work.

    2. @CMEPTb – I’m not at all underestimating how hard good help is to come by. What I’m saying is that if you aren’t more explicit in advertising the need for help, then the door isn’t wide open, and naturally there won’t be as much interest. It might be a really hard shot to make, and a futile effort after all, but if you don’t take it, you miss it for sure.

    3. I didn’t say there isn’t much interest. There is in fact plenty of interest most of the time. However, there is a huge gap between interested people applying and then getting any useful work done by them.

  3. I think you guys should just drop it. At this pace, you guys are never gonna catch up not get close to the japanese release in your lifetime. I appreciate your effort, but either try to get more help or stop.

    1. Speak for yourself. I love this series, and even if I only get 1 chapter every few months I’ll gladly read whatever I can get. This isn’t even close to an infrequent release compared to some series

    2. If we drop it, it might never get completed, though, so I really don’t understand your reasoning, leokiko. And even if we are behind the Japanese release right now, it doesn’t really matter from my perspective, as long as we finish it eventually – people might be reading this years from now, and I doubt they’ll really care if we were behind the Japanese release or not at this point. What they will care about is if this doesn’t get completed at all, or if the quality becomes inconsistent because different groups start jumping on it.

    3. i think you should continiou but if you know that there wont be a chapter for weeks you could inform us that would be great
thank you for your great work

  4. Thanks for the release!

And go Blues! Have to root for the home team (even if they always choke in the playoffs)

  5. Thanks! And lesson learned, use more than one drive. If the one that has windows on it fails, you can always just reformat it or replace it and keep your files on the other hard drive. I also keep backups on an external HD for good measure.

    1. Tell me about it; I have three externals that report back to the original HDD and all of them were supposed to have rolling backups, but apparently it never happened. C’est la vie, lolol.

    2. It’s the irony with backups – when you actually need them most, it turns out they didn’t give you what you needed or you weren’t running them at all lol

  6. Cool, thanks a lot!

p.s. Go Blues!! (no offfence, the blues’ll be out of it in the first round again this year anyway) :D
